Overview
You can install ConversaLabs as an app on your computer or phone. The app opens in its own window, gets an icon on your home screen, Dock or apps menu, and receives notifications even when the browser is minimized. Nothing is downloaded from an app store: installation uses your browser and takes a few seconds.
Inside your account, installation shows up in three discreet places:
- Profile menu (avatar at the bottom of the sidebar): the Install the app item.
- Notice at the bottom of the sidebar: "Install the app — Quick access and notifications". It appears only once; after you close it, it does not come back.
- Profile → App and notifications: shows whether the app is installed on this device, available to install, or whether your browser cannot install apps, and links to your notification preferences.
Prerequisites
- Being signed in to your account.
- App installation must be turned on by the platform administrator. When it is off, none of the options above appear.
- A compatible browser: Chrome or Edge (computer and Android), Safari on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.4 or later) or Safari on Mac (macOS Sonoma or later).
Step by step
Chrome or Edge (computer and Android)
- Open your profile menu and click Install the app (or use the sidebar notice).
- The browser shows the install window with the app name and icon.
- Click Install. The app opens in its own window and appears in your apps menu or home screen.
If the browser has not offered automatic installation yet, the platform shows the menu path: click the install icon in the address bar or open the browser menu (⋮ or …) and choose Install or Apps → Install this site as an app.
iPhone and iPad
- Open the platform in Safari and tap Install the app. The platform shows the three steps.
- Tap Share in the browser toolbar.
- Choose Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add. The app appears on your home screen.
Safari on Mac
- Open Safari's File menu and choose Add to Dock.
- Check the app name and click Add.
- Open the app from the Dock or Launchpad.
Other Android browsers
- Open the browser menu (⋮).
- Tap Install or Add to Home screen.
- Confirm. The app appears on your home screen.
Settings & options
- Profile → App and notifications shows the state of the device you are using: Installed on this device, Available to install or Your browser cannot install apps.
- The Notification preferences button takes you to the notification matrix in your profile, where you choose what you receive by email and push.
- The app name and icon are the brand configured by the platform administrator.
Use cases
- Keeping the platform open in a window separate from the browser, without mixed tabs.
- Getting notifications about new conversations and assignments on your phone.
- Opening the platform with one tap, straight from the home screen or the Dock.
Tips, limits & best practices
- The sidebar notice appears only once. After you close it, you still find the option in the profile menu and in Profile → App and notifications.
- When the app is already installed and you are using it, the install options disappear.
- Firefox on computers does not install apps. Use Chrome or Edge to install.
- On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work in the installed app: open the app from your home screen and turn on notifications in your profile.
- Browsers inside other apps (for example, when you open a link from Instagram) cannot install apps. Open the page in the device browser.
Troubleshooting
- I do not see the install option. The app may already be installed on this device, installation may be turned off by the administrator, or the browser may not be compatible. Check the state in Profile → App and notifications.
- I clicked Install and nothing happened. Some browsers only offer installation after you use the page for a few seconds. Follow the browser menu path shown on screen.
- The app icon is outdated. Remove the app and install it again to fetch the current icon.
- I do not get notifications on iPhone. Make sure you opened the app from the home screen and allowed notifications when the device asked.
